How to identify a logistic unit (SSCC)

SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code)
With SSCC, companies can effectively monitor each logistics unit throughout the order supply chain.
The SSCC can be encoded with a GS1-128 barcode or EPC / RFID tag so that the logistic unit can be effectively identified as it moves from one actor to another, anywhere in the world.
SSCC provides a globally valid number to identify logistic units. This allows companies to describe the content of the unit in detail and share the information with other actors via electronic messages. When the recipient then reads the SSCC code, the system retrieves the information that has already arrived electronically. Thus, the recipient receives information about the actual contents of the logistic unit. This significantly speeds up the process of receiving goods.
- The application ID in front of the SSCC code is only required when using a barcode or forwarding an SSCC code. It is always 00, and tells you that it is a serial delivery unit.
- The extension ID increases the capacity of the SSCC code and has a value of 0-9. It is determined by the company that issues the SSCC code.
- The serial number is a sequential number that is selected by the company that received the GS1 company prefix and that it immediately puts after the company number. The number of characters in the serial number depends on the length of the company prefix.
Example:
(00) 1 64YYYYYYY 0000001 T
00 = Application ID (is used whenever the SSCC is placed in the GS1 barcode)
1 = Extension ID (optional number from 0-9)
64YYYYYYY = GS1 company prefix (7-, 9-, 10- or 11-digit long, can also be 6-digit)
0000001 = Serial number (sequential numbering recommended, number of characters depends on company prefix length)
T = Archive number (calculated according to the calculation rule of modulo 10, a check number calculator can also be found on our website)
