GS1's Interoperable traceability program is a large project portfolio that aims to build a traceability solution based on common standards and operating models for the entire Finnish food chain - a single way to digitally trace a product from raw material to consumer. The aim of the solution being developed under the program is to help companies meet tightening regulatory requirements, use information more efficiently and strengthen their competitiveness - both domestically and for export.
The program builds on the roadmap for food chain traceability developed in the co-development project. It will be implemented as development projects between 2025 and 2027. Major Finnish food industry and retail trade players are involved, and other companies can also join the program for a fee. The development work will also involve close cooperation with public authorities, industry associations and technology suppliers to ensure that the resulting solutions support the needs of the entire food chain.
