Data model of raw material master data

In the Data model of raw material master data development project, we define a structured way to describe and share key information about raw materials throughout the food chain. The project, carried out together with the food industry and retail trade, is part of the Interoperable traceability program.

Building traceability into the food chain requires that also raw materials are reliably identified and information about them is shared in a consistent way. In this way, information can be passed along the chain in an interoperable way all the way from the field.

In the Data model of raw material master data, we are defining a common food chain approach for the identification of raw materials in selected product groups. In addition, we will identify mandatory and optional information relevant for identification and use this information to create a basic raw material data model.

The operational and data models will be piloted in the systems of the companies. The results of these pilots will be used to develop an international standard, assess system development needs and develop guidelines for the implementation of the models.

Tasks and objectives

  • The aim of the project is to create a common, standardised operating model for the Finnish food chain for the identification of raw materials and the management of master data in order to improve the chain's information flow and traceability.
  • The output of the project will be an operational model for the identification of raw materials, a data model for basic information and the results of company-specific piloting.
