Information on food sustainability

Data based on global standards makes it possible to communicate about food sustainability from farms all the way to international consumers. The sharing and utilisation of data in the food chain is more effective the more actors use consistent and standardised elements, for example, in the identification of products and raw materials or in the structure of product master data.

The data model of food sustainability developed in the Food Data Finland program offers companies a concrete tool to meet the growing demand for sustainability information. The data model describes how sustainability-related data can be collected and in what format it can be shared within the chain. It focuses specifically on four areas: product origin information, packaging information, certifications, and carbon footprint data.
