GS1 Data Tuotetiedot – Service Description for Recipients

1. Service scope and purpose

GS1 Data Tuotetiedot (hereinafter the Service) is a product information service provided by GS1 Finland (hereinafter GS1) that enables the Customer to receive product information maintained by suppliers and other product information providers centrally through a single channel.

The Service is intended for companies and organisations that need product information for their own systems, business processes and services. The GS1 standards and data models underpinning the Service support data consistency and make it easier to use information across the Customer’s systems and business processes. This improves, for example, product creation and maintenance, assortment management, procurement, e-commerce, consumer communications and logistics, and enables broader automated use of product information.

In the Service, the Customer can specify the information providers and product information it wishes to receive. The information becomes available to the Customer once the information provider has published it to the Customer. Continuous synchronisation of product information helps keep the Customer’s information up to date. When an information provider updates product information published to the Customer, the changes are automatically transmitted to the Customer through the Service.

Centralised receipt of information and automated data transfers reduce manual work and the risk of errors, and speed up the availability of current product information in the Customer’s systems.

Information received may include, for example, unique product identifiers and basic information, names and descriptions, ingredients and allergens, nutritional values, product classification, packaging hierarchy, dimensions and weights, ordering, delivery and logistics information, instructions for use and storage, origin information, sustainability and certification information, and other information specific to a product category or required by legislation.

Product images and other digital assets can also be received through the Service.

The Service is part of the international GS1 GDSN network, enabling the Customer to receive product information both from information providers using GS1 Data Product Information and, internationally, from other GDSN-certified product information services.

2. Use of the Service

Use of the Service requires a valid agreement with GS1. The agreement incorporates the standard TOPA terms of GS1 GDSN Inc. (Terms of Participation Agreement for Non-US Trading Partners), which govern the Customer’s participation in the global product information network, enabling product information to be received internationally from other product information services.

The Customer must have an active GS1 Company Prefix from which the Global Location Number (GLN) required to use the Service is created. A GS1 Company Prefix is issued by GS1 or a GS1 Member Organisation in another country under a separate agreement.

The right to use the Service is governed by the GS1 Data Terms of Use. This service description also specifies particular rights and restrictions concerning the use of product information received.

The Customer has the right to receive, process and use product information obtained through the Service in its own business operations and to publish it, for example, in its online store and other digital channels. The Customer has the right to modify and supplement received product information in its own information systems. The Customer is responsible for the accuracy of any changes and additions it makes.

The Customer may use the Service and process received product information itself or with the assistance of a consultant or other service provider acting on its behalf. Such a party acts on behalf of the Customer and does not acquire an independent right to use the Service. The Customer is responsible for that party’s acts and omissions as for its own. An independent right of use requires a separate agreement between the partner and GS1.

The Customer’s right to disclose received product information and use it for other purposes is restricted as follows:

  • the Customer may not disclose received product information to third parties except as part of its own business operations or a related service as described above.
  • the Customer may not use the Service or product information received through it to develop products or services competing with the GS1 Service, either itself or with the assistance of a third party.

The Customer may use the Service:

  • through a web-based user interface, where the Customer can receive and process product information. Use requires an internet connection, a suitable computer and an up-to-date web browser.

  • through system integration, whereby product information is transferred from the Service to the Customer’s own system, such as an ERP or PIM system, using technical interfaces. Integration enables automated receipt and updating of product information. Technical documentation is available on the GS1 website.

The Customer is responsible for obtaining and maintaining the equipment, telecommunications and other connections, and software required to use the Service, for the associated costs, and for ensuring compliance with the operating environment requirements specified by GS1. The Customer is also responsible for training its own personnel to use the Service.

When using system integration, the Customer is responsible, at its own expense, for designing, building, operating, testing and implementing the integration. The Customer is also responsible for the activities of any external integration provider it uses, as described above.

The Service is developed in accordance with international standards. The Customer undertakes to implement changes based on standards that are necessary for the operation of the Service according to the schedule communicated by GS1.

3. Responsibilities for product information

The product information provider is responsible for the content, accuracy, completeness and currency of the product information it enters into and publishes through the Service.

GS1 provides the Service for transmitting and synchronising product information and supports data quality through standards, data models and validations. GS1 also provides guidance and training. GS1 is not responsible for the content of information entered into the Service by an information provider or for errors and costs arising from that information.

The Customer is responsible for processing and using received product information in its own business processes and for the accuracy of any changes and additions it makes to the information.

4. Prices and payment terms

The Customer pays an annual fee for use of the Service. The annual fee for the current year is charged upon activation. Annual fees for subsequent years are invoiced each January using the invoicing method selected by the Customer (e-invoice, email invoice or paper invoice). Payment terms are 14 days net.

If the annual Service fee is paid by credit card, it is automatically charged as a recurring payment on 2 January each year to the credit card used by the Customer when placing the order, unless the Customer changes the payment method or terminates the service agreement at least 14 days before the charge date. The Customer must ensure that its credit card details are up to date. If the card has expired, the Customer must update the card details on the My Account page of the GS1 online store before the charge date.

GS1 has the right to change the annual fee for the Service. Price changes will be notified to the Service’s main user by email at least thirty (30) days before they take effect. The current price list is available on the website (www.gs1.fi) and from customer service.www.gs1.fi
