GS1 Synkka – Mobile Ready Hero Image, MRHI

The MRHI (Mobile Ready Hero Image) refers to a digital shelf image. The Mobile Ready Hero Image is suitable for situations where the image is presented small, for example in the listing and grid views of online stores and on small screens.

The Mobile Ready Hero Image highlights the following four key elements of information that are essential for consumers to choose the right product:

  1. brand name
  2. product name
  3. variety
  4. quantity, net content or package size
     

 

The requirement of the Mobile Ready Hero Image is the clarity of the image. This means that the information shown in the picture must be readable in a very small size.

The Mobile Ready Hero Image does not replace the primary product image, but complements and refines it.

The Mobile Ready Hero Images are especially needed when there are many similar products, for example there are many package sizes or variants of the same product. The products are typically often bought and inexpensive, they are already familiar, and the consumer doesn't want to spend a lot of time choosing them. When choosing such products, the consumer's attention is mainly focused on the image, and the texts related to the product may not be read at all.

 

Follow these guidelines when making Mobile Ready Hero Images:

  • Even if the image of the product packaging is modified, the image of the product must remain the same. Designs must be made in accordance with the color, style and design of the original packaging.
  • The four most important information of the product (brand name, product name, variety, quantity / net content / package size) are emphasized by enlarging the text or adding the information to the image.
  • The information is added to the package or on top of the package. Texts must not exceed the boundaries of the product.
  • The element indicating the quantity is primarily placed in the lower right corner of the image. The amount can also be placed outside the package.
  • Small and unnecessary texts are deleted.
  • Marketing texts or additional sales elements may not be added to the image.
  • Packaging labels or other information may not be added or highlighted if they are not highlighted even in the genuine product packaging.
  • The background must be transparent or white.
  • The recommendation is that the MRHI image is square in shape, and that the elements should be placed in such a way that there is as little empty background as possible.
  • The product's shape or aspect ratio must not be substantially distorted. For example, a long rectangular product cannot be made square by stretching the image into a square.
  • In the MRHI, part of the product packaging can be cropped out of the image, as long as all relevant information is visible in the image.
  • For some products, it is easier to add information to the MRHI if the image is zoomed in and only part of the product is shown.
  • In the MRHI, the product is in its packaging.
  • If the product for sale is a multipack, the individual product can be shown in the MRHI outside the package.

Mobile Ready Hero Image material requirements

In GS1 Synkka, the MRHI is separated from other sales and marketing images by image type. Select the value Mobile Ready Hero Image in the Type (Id 2469 ) data field.

Visual clarity of the Mobile Ready Hero Image

The Mobile Ready Hero Image highlights the following four key elements of information that are essential for consumers to choose the right product:

  • brand name
  • product name
  • variety
  • quantity, net content or package size
     

The information must be recognizable in a very small size. One way to make sure and test, is to blur the image with an image processing program. A Gaussian blur filter is used for blurring, giving a pixel size of approx. 1.1% of the length of the larger side of the image (e.g. 33 px when the width of the image is 3000 px).

After blurring, you must be able to distinguish the essential identification information of the product from the image.
