Pricing of GS1 Company Prefixes will be renewed
We're clarifying our pricing by removing the granting fees for GS1 Company Prefixes. In the future, the price of the annual fee is based on the number of codes that can be generated from the Company Prefix. The number sequence length of the GS1 Company Prefix determines how many codes can be generated from it.
The invoicing period for the annual fee is a calendar year and it is invoiced annually in January. An annual fee must be paid for the GS1 Company Prefix as long as the codes generated from it are in use.
The price renewal of GS1 Company Prefixes does not affect the prices of other GS1 services.

What is a GS1 Company Prefix?

Why is the pricing of GS1 Company Prefixes renewed?
We want to clarify our pricing by removing the separate granting fee and the pricing model based on the company's previous year's turnover. In the future, our customers will pay for the Company Prefix according to the list price. We believe that the reform will make it easier for small start-up companies to become our customers and for their products to be included in store selections.
How do I know which GS1 Company Prefix our company uses?
You can check the length of your Company Prefix in the OmaGS1 customer portal (https://oma.gs1.fi/). You can find the listing under My company information. The number of digits in the number series indicates which GS1 company identifier it is. If your company has more than one active Company Prefix, they will all appear in the list.
You can easily find a listing of your Company Prefixes and the number of codes also in the GS1 Rekisteri service. We bill for all company identifiers with Active status.
How many codes can I make from different GS1 Company prefixes?
Different length of Company Prefixes can be used to generate a different number of GS1 identifiers. The GTIN code and GLN number have the same structure, so the same amount of them can be created from a Company prefix of a certain length. In the same way, the SSCC, GSIN and GSRN identifiers are similar in structure, in which case an equal amount of them can be created from a company identifier of a certain length. Other GS1 identifiers can be generated from Company Prefix in an almost unlimited way.
- 11 digit Company Prefixes can be used to generate 10 GTIN/GLN codes or 1 million SSCC/GSIN/GSRN codes
- 10 digit Company Prefixes can be used to generate 100 GTIN/GLN codes or 10 million SSCC/GSIN/GSRN codes
- 9 digit Company Prefixes can be used to generate 1000 GTIN/GLN codes or 100 million SSCC/GSIN/GSRN codes
- 8 digit Company Prefixes can be used to generate 10,000 GTIN/GLN codes or 1 billion SSCC/GSIN/GSRN codes
- 7 digit Company Prefixes can be used to generate 100,000 GTIN/GLN codes or 10 billion SSCC/GSIN/GSRN codes
- A Company Prefix for variable-weight products, can be used to generate a variable-size GTIN code for 100 different products.
Why does the new price list also include GS1 Company Prefixes that are no longer available?
GS1 Finland offers six different Company Prefixes. In addition, there are discontinued Company Prefixes in use on the market. An annual fee must be paid for the GS1 Company Prefix for as long as the codes generated from it are in use. That's why Company Prefixes that are no longer on sale will also have their own price in the future.
How are GS1 Company Prefixes priced today?
Until 31 December 2023, the price of the GS1 company identifier consists of:
- the one-time granting fee, which is determined by the Company Prefix to be ordered, and
- annual fee, which depends on the company's yearly turnover.

What do I pay when I order a new GS1 Company Prefix?
We do not charge a granting fee for Company Prefixes purchased after 1 January 2024. In connection with the order, we invoice for the remaining full months of the annual fee portion of that year. For example, when you order in May, you pay seven months (June–December) of the annual fee.
