The new GS1 Data service streamlines companies’ product information management

Sijaintidataa
GS1 Finland is currently developing a new digital service that will make it easier for companies to manage and share product information between different parties. The GS1 Data service, which will be introduced gradually next spring, offers a modern and consistent way to maintain and utilise reliable product-related information throughout the supply chain.

GS1 Data brings together companies’ product information in one place and provides a tool for smooth management and sharing of that information among trading partners. It combines GS1 Finland’s existing services – GS1 Synkka and GS1 Rekisteri – into a single entity that covers the management of product codes, location and party codes, as well as product information. The service offers companies a unified and efficient way to manage product-related data across the entire value chain.

– The new GS1 Data means that GS1 Synkka, known especially as the channel for transmitting product information in the food industry and retail trade, will become history. However, we can already promise that GS1 Data will bring several improvements that will make our customers’ everyday life easier and smoother, says Sanni Laine, CCO at GS1 Finland.

GS1 Data is designed to be user-centric and scalable, so it can adapt to companies’ various and evolving needs in the future as well. It is based on GS1’s global standards and data models, which ensures the consistency and compatibility of information internationally.

Rollout begins in spring 2026

The first customer pilots will start soon, and the broader rollout of the service will begin gradually in spring 2026. Customers using the interface will transition to the new service during spring, and those using integrations will join GS1 Data according to their own schedules, no later than the end of September.

– We will ensure that all current GS1 Synkka and GS1 Rekisteri codes, products, and users are transferred to the new service. Before the rollout, our customers will receive training on using the GS1 Data interface and more detailed information about the timing of their company’s transition, says Tuomo Kronbäck, COO at GS1 Finland.

Improvements for smoother everyday operations

GS1 Data brings many innovations that make product information management easier and streamline daily work. Compared to GS1 Synkka, the interface is faster and more visual, search and filter functions are more versatile, and new assistant features support, for example, the creation of product names and packaging hierarchies. The interfaces will also be renewed to serve customers’ needs more comprehensively.

– GS1 Data is an important step towards modern, interoperable, and user-friendly product information management. We want to ensure that the transition to the new service is as smooth as possible for our customers and that they immediately gain concrete benefits from it, says Sanni Laine.

New product information management service

We are renewing our product information management services to better meet the needs of our customers now and in the future. The new service will be launched in Spring 2026.
